nero marquina marble

Nero Marquina marble is a stone of Spanish origin, characterized by a Black background crossed by thin White veins with occasional white spots and fossils.
It is quarried at the regions of Northern Spain in Markina, Basque country.

Although referred to as marble, the rock is of pure sedimentary origin. It is a dark, fine-grained, muddy Carboniferous limestone, rich in bitumen which reflects its dark Charcoal coloration.
